1) Why do we build a Sukkah on Sukkot? It is to commemorate wandering in the desert between the time of the Exodus and entering the land of Israel. The sukkah is a non-permanent dwelling, like our ancestors in the desert. 2) What pieces of land did we win in the 1967 war? Israel conquered the Gaza Strip, the Golan, and the West Bank during that war. This was a very historic day because it was when the Jews finally had Jerusalem again after thousands of years. 3) Against whom did the Jews fight during Channukah? We fought and won against the Greeks. 4) Who destroyed the Second Temple? It was the Romans. 5) Where was the Torah given? It was given at Mount Sinai. 6) Where did Moses die? He died at a famous mountain called Mount Nevo. It is said that we never knew and will never know exactly where he is buried so that it doesn’t become a memorial. 7) Who was the leader of the Jews after Moses? It was his second in command, Yehoshua Bin Noon, and not his brother, Aaron. 8) What is the name of the ritual bath for cleansing? It is called a Mikvah and it is for spiritual cleansing and purification, not physical cleansing. 9) Where were the Ten Commandments kept? They were kept in the Aron Hakodesh, or the Ark in English. 10) Is there any relationship between the Jews and the Arabs? Yes there is in fact. Abraham had two sons, Yitzchak and Yishmael. Yitzchak was a forefather of the Jewish People, while Yishmael was the forefather of the Arabic people. Also, we are both considered Semetic.

Option 2: 1. What are the motives of the Israeli government to help fund the taglit program? They get tremendous mileage out of the program both in that people come to love and defend Israel, and they spend money there as well. 2. What is the biggest tourist spot in Israel? No idea – I guess the Western Wall (though I hate calling it a tourist site!), Masada, etc. 3. Because camels inhabit Israel, has it become infected yet with the new disease of MERS (since camels carry that disease)? I have no idea; not my specialty 4. What is your favorite time of year to go to Israel? Holidays are amazing – the whole country becomes dotted with sukkahs, illuminated by Menorahs, etc. It’s magical! 5. Could there ever be a non-jewish prime minister in Israel? I hope not; that would likely mean there is no longer a Jewish majority in the state! 6. Do you think that women should be able to be rabbis in the Jewish religion? It’s not a question of what I think. Traditional Judaism has always ascribed distinct roles to men and women, based on certain inherent differences. So this is really part of a much larger conversation about gender roles in traditional Judaism. Basically, a rabbi in the classical sense is a "judge" - someone who must render impartial, dispassionate rulings. Women tend to be more compassionate and emotionally connected beings; Judaism perceives their ideal state of one of nurturing and situational accommodations, which is incongruous with strict legal renderings. Of course, if by rabbi we just mean counselor, teacher, etc. then women can and do all those things w/in the observant community. 7. Do Israelis often have cars or is public transportation more common like in NYC? Cars are growing more common, but they’re expensive – high taxes and extremely high gas prices. Public transport in most places is also excellent, but it really depends where in the country. 8. Are there more rural (desert) areas or urban in Israel? The Negev is like 57% of the country I believe – so pretty rural/deserted 9. What is your favorite part about birthright? The new group I get to connect with each time. 10. If you could live anywhere in Israel, where would it be? Jerusalem is my favorite place, but not sure it’s a practical to live there b/c of high costs, limited area, etc. So second would be the north.
