I recently had some of my best friends over to my small New York apartment and we made fresh Challah! This is something we had been talking about doing long before my Birthright trip and I was so glad to finally make it happen. AND they all tasted GREAT!
Shabbat meal before lighting the candles. We took care to take the picture before the blessing had been said. I feel a closer connection to Judaism and my fellow Jewish people when lighting the candles and saying the same blessing we each say every week.
I enjoy taking an extra 20 minutes before lighting candles to reflect on the week, all of the good and, more importantly, the bad. I find that this allows me to enter Shabbat with a more fulfilled feeling of rest. By digesting the events of the week before eagerly resting, I learn more about myself as a person and how I want to impact the world around me.
