Attend a Yom Kippur ServiceInstructions:
I attended Yom Kippur services at the same synagogue where I went to Rosh Hashanah, and once again volunteered for the youth program. It was challenging to be polite to people while hungry, but there were a few elderly people who didn't want to go into services, so I spent a good part of my day reflecting about the year with them. It felt good to enable others to be part of the jewish community.
I've never missed observing Yom Kippur, though I can't always make it to shul. Davening rarely feels meaningful to me, so I often try to find a way to engage with the jewish community that keeps a siddur out of my hands. This year, it was signing children into the youth program in squirrel hill. Although most of my time was spent giving directions, I listened to the d'var torah for self reflection, and of course to the shofar. it was great to help out the community and feel involved. Especially while away from home, it's important to engage with other Jews in was that feel meaningful to you.
I attended a yom kippur service. i used to do it every year at home. I think yom kippur is a great holiday. i like hearing the shofar. i will be doing this every year. It is important because it is a very big holiday in the jewish religion.
I went to the Chabad (technically Unity) ending Yom Kippur services and the Rodef Shalom day services. I like Rodef's because there was a great cantor, though they could include more Hebrew. It was comforting because it was similar enough to what I grew up with. The Chabad service was not my favorite, as it was rushed, and therefore left a number of people feeling as though they had not been spiritually fulfilled. This was not my first time at Rodef, and I would go back, however, it was my first time at Chabad, and I will not be attending that service in the future.
For Erev Yom Kippur morning services, I went to Rodef Shalom, a local synagogue. While the service did not have as much congregational hebrew as I would have liked, I loved the Kol Nidre with the cello, it was absolutely lovely. Additionally, the service overall was able to start a real sense of penance for the next 25 hours.
